Sage is more than just a dog — she’s the reason Nurturing Paws Haven exists.

She came into my life when I was young, during a time when I needed her just as much as she needed me. Through every difficult season, Sage was my constant: a source of comfort, purpose, and unconditional love. Caring for her taught me that for many people, a dog is not just a pet — they are family, lifelines, and quiet protectors of our hearts.

Sage also became my greatest teacher. She showed me how deeply a dog’s environment, routine, and handling affect their emotional well-being. I learned that not every dog thrives in loud, crowded, high-energy settings — and that needing calm, patience, and understanding does not make a dog “difficult.” It makes them honest.

My name is Alexus Wyman, and I am the owner and founder of Nurturing Paws Haven. My journey into animal care began long before this business, shaped by years of hands-on experience working with dogs, training, learning canine communication, and competing alongside Sage. Together, we’ve spent countless hours building trust, confidence, and skills — lessons earned through dedication, patience, and real-world experience, not shortcuts.

Watching Sage flourish in calm, structured environments changed how I viewed pet care entirely. It pushed me to question traditional kennel models and inspired me to create something different — a place where dogs are not simply managed, but truly understood.

Our Story

Nurturing Paws Haven began with a simple realization: not every dog thrives in traditional boarding environments.

I saw how often dogs were expected to adapt to loud spaces, constant stimulation, and routines that didn’t reflect who they were as individuals. For some dogs, that kind of environment works just fine. For others, it leads to stress, anxiety, and behavioral changes that aren’t truly part of who they are.

Through my own experiences — especially with Sage — I learned how much environment, consistency, and calm handling can shape a dog’s sense of safety. I saw how dogs flourish when they’re allowed to exist at their own pace, with clear boundaries and respectful care.

I started Nurturing Paws Haven to create the kind of place I struggled to find — a small, home-like setting where dogs don’t have to “push through” discomfort just to be cared for.

That’s why we operate by appointment only and review every request before approving a stay. This allows us to protect a peaceful atmosphere, ensure safety, and make sure each dog is truly a good fit for the environment.
